Japan Visa Application for Filipinos in Singapore

We traveled to Japan last April to May 2017 and as a Filipino citizen we are required to apply for a Visa before entering Japan. As far as I know, in the Philippines, travel agencies can arrange the visa application on behalf of the applicant. But if you are working in Singapore like us you need to do this by yourself. Don't worry because it is really easy. 😉

You can only apply at Embassy of Japan in Singapore if the applicants are residing in Singapore. For example, you will travel to Japan with your wife. She is residing in the Philippines and not holding any valid Identity Card issued by Singapore Government therefore she need to arrange her Japan Visa Application in the Philippines.

As what I have mentioned, Japan Visa application in Singapore is really easy and for Filipino citizen it is FREE! Here are the steps.

1. Before going to Japan Embassy prepare all the required documents like the following:
          -Valid Passport
          - Completed Visa Application Form
(Can be downloaded at Embassy of Japan in Singapore Website. Make sure to fill up
properly) You may click the link below for Japan Visa Application Form:
                   http://www.sg.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/visa_tempvisit_sightseeing_multiple.html
On this link you can also find the guide on how to fill up the form.
          - Recent Colored Photo (refer to checklist on the required size)
          - Certificate of Employment
          - Updated Bank Statement (at least have a minimum of $3000 in your account)
          - Flight Booking (Return Tickets)
          - Identity Card issued by Singapore Governent (E Pass, S Pass, DP, etc)

It is recommended to download the checklist of required documents at Embassy of Japan in Singapore Website for updated list of requirements. You may click the link below to download the checklist.

Window below will appear. Click Multiple Entry or Single or Double Entry under No 1. Temporary Visit for Site Seeing.

2. Once all the required documents are on hand, arrange the documents in order according to checklist and directly go to Embassy of Japan. No need for an appointment.

                         Address:
                         Embassy of Japan in Singapore
                         16 Nassim Road, Singapore 258372

Take note of the operating hours for APPLICATION.
                         Application: 8:30AM - 12:00PM
                         Collection: 1:30PM - 4:00PM

Monday to Friday, except during Embassy holidays.

On the day we submitted our documents, we reached the Embassy around 9 am and ~20 people were already in the room. We took our number and waited for an approximately an hour to be called. When it was our turn, the officer checked our documents one by one and give us a date on when to come back for the results. It was a hassle free transaction! It is recommended that before going to the Embassy double check your documents based on the checklist and arrange accordingly. 😄

3. Come back on the date given by the officer for the result and collection of your passport. Take note of the operating hours for COLLECTION. For us, it took a week before we know the result.

We were given a single entry visa therefore we need to follow again these steps if we want to go back again to Japan. Hoping next time they will grant us with a multiple entry. 😁

  1. Hi,

Did you fully pay for your air tickets before applying? I'm asking because requirements indicate a booking number and the only way to get it is by paying first. Other countries actually discourage buying before getting a visa. How did you go about it?

    1. Hi jvliveh, Im not sure if this reply will still be useful. But Yes, we fully paid our ticket. It's one of the requirements. For the hotel booking, we use Agoda's Book now pay later policy so you dont need to pay upfront.

      I hope this helps! :)

    2. Thanks for the reply, Jenny, albeit a bit late. What happened: Tried a booking screenshot to apply, but they asked me to come back with a reservation. Haha. Went to an agent who could hold the ticket for 3 days, returned to embassy, got the visa after a week. Then went looking for deals. Not sure if repeatable. :P Was a fun trip!

Hey, do update if you got your multiple entry. Japan is too beautiful to see once.

      Thanks!

    1. Hi, I have the same question.
If I have SG-MNL and MNL-SG from one airline.
Then, I have MNL-JP and JP-MNL from another airline.
Is this still considered a round trip ticket?

    2. It's not a round trip ticket, but it is a round trip, just give them a copy of both/all tickets, I guess. Also, they are very friendly there and will advise you on meeting requirements.
